Bonus Drivers
5 points are scored for each place the driver gains between
where they were classified as starting the race and the finish, but
5 points are lost for each place the driver loses. No points are given if they finish the race in the same position that
they started in.
Picking a driver that usually start's near the back of the
field, but is in a reliable car would mean that they can gain
places without overtaking anything as cars ahead of them drop
out. Conversely, a front running driver cannot make up many
places (especially if they usually start on Pole), but could
make up massive places if they happened to have a bad qualifying
session or had a grid-penalty (for example, an engine change). Caution should be applied if picking a front running driver as they could lose massive points if they retire early.
Bonus Circuits
This cannot be changed. The first Bonus Circuit to be used
will be the Spanish Grand Prix on the 9th May (Race 5). This
should give enough time for a player to get used to how Drivers,
Constructors and Engines are performing this season. Obviously
you want to make sure you've really picked your best team when your
Bonus Circuit is raced at.
Passwords
If someone created a team/account for you, make sure you change
your password (perhaps best to do this regularly anyway),
to prevent that person from logging into your account to see
what you have picked (or worse still, changing your selections).
Also, make sure you use a strong password. You can change
your password by first logging in, and then clicking "Change
my details" near the top of the page.
Selections
In certain cases you might be able to select a constructor
or engine, and one or both drivers that drive for that constructor
or engine. However, if one of those drivers retires early,
you have the potential to lose points for the driver AND the
constructor and/or engine. On the otherhand if that driver
finishes near the sharp end, and you had picked his constructor
and/or engine, then there is the potential to collect a lot
of points. That's a gamble to take. The old adage of "Eggs
in one basket" springs to mind here.
If you have slipped quite a long way behind the leader of
your league, you may need to make some drastic changes to
your team. Look at the history of the leader's selections.
The chances are that they don't change their team very often,
therefore its likely they will have the same selection for
the next race. You'll want to pick something different from
theirs (obviously if you pick the same, you will only score
the same as them and the points gap will stay the same). Look
at the next race... does a certain team or driver usually
go well at that track? Maybe the track suits the characteristics
of their car. Is the driver/team on a fresh engine, or is
it the second race for this engine? If its the second race
for the engine, the driver/team may have to drive conservatively
to reach the end of the race and thus forfeit some places.
The engine may not survive the distance and thus be an early
retirement and thus low points. If your Bonus Circuit hasn't
been yet, swot up on who goes well at that track and make
sure you have selected them before the deadline of that race.
